AMU to offer job to a family member of slain student

New Delhi: The Aligarh Muslim University has expressed sorrow at the killing of Shahnawaz Alam, a student of B.Sc. III year of the University outside the campus yesterday and vowed to bring the culprit to book. The University has also announced to offer a job to a family member of the deceased.

“Sharing the pain and anguish at the dastardly act, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University has said that University will leave no stone unturned to bring the culprit to book,” said Zeeshan Ahmed, Acting Public Relations Officer, AMU. The University will also offer a job to a family member of the deceased and a fund will also be raised from staff and students to be handed over to the bereaved family, Ahmed further said.

Meanwhile, the Police have already arrested the culprit alleged to have opened fire on Alam.

Urging the students to display restraint at this hour of grief, Vice Chancellor said that the University administration has been in constant touch with the district officials.

The body of the deceased has been taken to his native town and the Provost NRSC and a team of teachers proceeded to the residence of Mr. Alam to offer condolences to the family. As a mark of respect to the departed soul the classes in the Faculty of Sciences were suspended on the day.

A condolence meeting comprising Deans, provosts, Wardens, local members of the Executive Council, Principals of the Colleges, senior teachers was held and the Vice Chancellor presided over the meeting which passed a resolution condoling the sad demise of the student.

In his appeal to the students, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis has said that he was very committed to the well being of the students. “Nothing is more important to me than the welfare of each one of student,” he said while asking the students and teachers to see that undesirable elements do not take advantage of the situation.
