Pakistan to attend D8 ministerial meeting in Malaysia in November

Kuala Lumpur : Pakistan will participate in next month’s ministerial meeting here of the D8 which is expected to issue a communique on addressing food security in the grouping of Islamic developing countries.

A statement from the Pakistan High Commission (embassy) here Monday said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi would lead the delegation to the 12th D8 ministerial meeting on Nov 2. The meeting would be preceded by the 27th session of the D8 Commission beginning Oct 30.

The D8, or Developing Eight, are a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations which have formed an economic development alliance. The countries –Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey — account for more than 13 per cent of the world’s population.

“On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, the Pakistan Foreign Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from D8 countries and also meet with potential Malaysian investors,” the statement added.

Qureshi will also present a model of the historic Badshahi Mosque of Lahore to the Islamic Arts Museum of Malaysia which exhibits models of Islamic heritage from throughout the world.
