Kochi: Representative of the central Public Works Department visited the land proposed for the off-campus centre of the Aligarh Muslim University in Kerala. The land at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district was visited by Uthaman Nair, sub-divisional engineer at the Central Public Works Department in Calicut.

Mr Nair discussed with the acquisition officers matters regarding the water, electricity and transportation facilities along with the acquisition of land. The Aligarh Special Office later informed that the officer had expressed his content on the land and that he had given positive reports.

The acquisition of land has not yet been completed as some land owners have approached the court against it. Selection of the appropriate land too took a lot of time as the land selected earlier had to be changed. Primary survey has been completed on the land and acquisition procedures have reportedly begun.

Recently the vice-chancellor of the AMU, Dr PK Abdul Azeez, had visited the land and expressed his hope that the state government would accelerate the proceedings. He had said that the campus would come to a reality if the state government was sincere about it.
