All parties should fight Maoist violence: Buddhadeb

By IANS,

Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Saturday appealed to all political parties to come forward and arrive at a consensus to combat Maoist violence in the state.

“I urge everyone to unitedly fight against the Maoist elements. If all the opposition parties – including the Congress and Trinamool Congress – in our state had protested against the leftwing extremism, this problem of Maoist violence would not have taken such great magnitude,” Bhattacharjee said at a convention organised by the state’s ruling Left Front (LF) here.

“I appeal to everyone not to support these separatist elements,” he said, criticising the role of the state’s principal opposition Trinamool Congress.

He said that Trinamool Congress was supporting the Maoists in the state.

“We’ll have to eradicate these Maoist ultras from West Bengal and for that we need to spread awareness among common people,” Bhattacharjee added.

Terming the Maoist violence as a “terrible state of affairs”, state LF chairman Biman Bose said the government must take stringent action against these separatist forces.

“The centre must help the state government curb this Maoist network,” Bose said.
