Srinagar : Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharad Sabharwal Tuesday visited the Salamabad trade facilitation centre and Kaman Post on the Line of Control (LOC) in north Kashmir to familiarize himself with the modalities of the trans-LOC trade between the two parts of the divided state.
“The high commissioner was also informed about the modalities of passenger inflow and outflow through the trade facilitation centre”, a senior official said here.
Thirty trucks carrying merchandise from Muzaffarabad reached the Salamabad trade facilitation centre Tuesday, while 16 trucks carrying fresh fruit and carpets went to the other of the LOC from here.
The trans-LOC trade started last October after the Indian and Pakistan governments mutually approved the various items that could be carried across to either side.
Later, Sabharwal visited the Kaman Post on the Indian side of the LOC and interacted with the Indian Army officers there.
Jammu and Kashmir Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) K. Rajendra Kumar and Principal Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Anil Goswami accompanied the high commissioner during the visit.
