Moscow : The pop singer Michael Jackson, who died in June at the age of 50, has been buried in the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Los Angeles suburb, Glendale, CNN reported on Friday.
The private memorial ceremony, with only immediate relatives and friends present, was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local time (02:00 GMT Friday), but started with a two-hour delay, the TV channel said.
The gold-plated coffin containing Jackson’s body, decorated with white and yellow flowers, was set on a podium together with two big portraits of the late singer, CNN said.
Dame Elizabeth Taylor, actor Macaulay Culkin and music producer Quincy Jones were among the 200 invited guests, media reported. Jackson’s relatives and friends delivered memorial speeches, which were not broadcasted by media in accordance with the Jackson family’s request.
After the service, the coffin with Jackson’s body was put into the Great Mausoleum, where the Hollywood stars Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn and Clark Gable are also buried.
Michael Jackson died on June 25 at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and going into a coma. A police investigation into Jackson’s death has centered on his use of prescription drugs and on the doctors who treated him.
The singer’s funeral was earlier scheduled for August 29 but was postponed when some family members objected to it being held on what would have been Jackson’s 51st birthday.
