Chandigarh: Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) chief Kuldeep Bishnoi Sunday said there is no possibility of giving a party ticket to his controversial brother Chander Mohan in the forthcoming Haryana assembly polls.
“Chander Mohan is in the Congress and there is no question of giving him ticket from the HJC. He has not even approached us. One thing should be very clear that there is no place for him in our party at this point of time,” Bishnoi told reporters here Sunday.
“We can think of giving ticket to Seema Bishnoi (Chander Mohan’s wife), if she approaches us. However, in such matters the final decision will be of our party’s high command.”
Chander Mohan is a four-time Congress legislator from the Kalka assembly seat, which is now divided into Kalka and Panchkula seats.
He lost high-profile post of the Haryana deputy chief minister after he disappeared in October last year and re-emerged early December with a new name (Chand Mohammad), new religion (Islam) and a new wife (Fiza).
Talking about joining hands with any other party, Bishnoi said, “There is no possibility of making an alliance with any other political party. We have realized one thing that people never vote for alliances, they always vouch for individual’s merits. It is totally false that Bhajan Lal had met (Bharatiya Janata Party leader) Lal Krishan Advani in New Delhi to strike an alliance with the BJP.”
Bishnoi and Bhajan Lal were suspended from the Congress after they floated their own political outfit in 2007.
The father-son duo was upset with the Congress leadership since Bhajan Lal was denied the chief minister’s post even though he led the party to one of its biggest victories in the 2005 assembly polls.
The HJC Sunday declared its second list of 32 candidates. Earlier, it had released a list of 26 candidates for the 90-seat assembly polls. Bishnoi is contesting from Adampur seat in Hisar district, considered a stronghold of Bhajan Lal.
Whereas Bhajan Lal, lone winner from HJC in the May Lok Sabha elections, is not contesting.
The Congress won nine out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the May general elections this year.
The Congress is yet to announce its candidates.
Last date of filing nominations in Haryana is Sep 25. Elections will be held Oct 13 and the counting will be on Oct 22.
