Ranchi : Four guerrillas were killed by members of another Maoist group in Gumla district of Jharkhand Monday, police said.
A gun battle between two groups of Maoist rebels took place at Salkaya jungle of Gumla, about 160 km from here. “In the clash, four Maoist rebels were killed,” a police officer told IANS.
People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) commander Jayram Gope alias Bhvaniji was among those killed. One rifle and live cartridges were seized from the killed rebels.
“There are two possibilities in the killing of the PLFI rebels. First is someone from the PLFI tipped off rival Maoist gang Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) which executed the killing or the PLFI members clashed among themselves causing death of the rebels,” the police officer added.
In Jharkhand, there are six Maoist organisations which often clash over the issue of levy and control of districts.
Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand. Nearly 1,550 people have been killed in Maoist-related violence in the last eight years.
