Over 50 countries to participate in Energy Summit

Abu Dhabi : Over 50 countries will be participating in the World Future Energy Summit 2010 to be held here Jan 18-21 next year, a WAM report said Monday.

The city will see the largest and most diverse gathering of world leaders, investors, policy makers, researchers, financial institutions and experts, the organisers of World Future Energy Summit (WFES) announced.

The summit is being organised under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The summit is being hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi.

Sultan Al Jaber, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, said that “Abu Dhabi has always strived to be an open global platform for collaboration to promote the adoption of renewable energy and climate change mitigation.”

WFES 2010 includes a conference and two exhibitions: the World Future Energy Exhibition focusing on advanced and renewable energy, and the World Future Environment Exhibition dedicated to air, water and waste management technologies and solutions.

Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic and South Africa will be participating in the summit for the first time.

Among the confirmed keynote speakers will be Karolos Papoulias, President of Greece; Mohamed Nasheed, President of Maldives; and Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohammed Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia. Helene Pelosse, Director General of IRENA, will also address the summit.

Leading science publisher Elsevier have designed the summit.
