Johannesburg : Sri Lanka were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during its 38-run loss to New Zealand in the Champions Trophy at the Wanderers here Sunday.
Match Referee Javagal Srinath imposed the fines after Kumar Sangakkara’s side was ruled to be two overs short of its target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.
In accordance with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
As such, Sangakkara was fined 20 percent of his match fee while each of his players received 10 percent fine.
