Lucknow: Police Tuesday arrested a man in the Uttar Pradesh capital and recovered fake Indian currency with the nominal value of Rs.500,000 from his possession.
Girijesh Yadav was arrested from the Manak Nagar area of the city, based on information divulged by one of his associates, Arif, whom police arrested a couple of days ago, police spokesperson A.K. Pathak told IANS.
The duo were involved in the business of circulating counterfeit currency for quite a long time and used to communicate between Mumbai and Lucknow very frequently.
“They began with this business in Mumbai and slowly started providing fake currency in many districts of the state including Lucknow,” Pathak added.
In a similar catch, three people were arrested in Etawah district Monday and fake currency having face value of Rs.850,000 recovered from them.
However, there is no connection between the two gangs, as those arrested in Etawah used to manufacture the notes with the help of computer, scanner and colour printer and circulated them in rural parts of adjoining districts.
