Dr MK Muneer to represent Muslim League at the Batla House anniversary

By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Kochi: Dr MK Muneer, state secretary of Kerala Muslim League, will represent the party in the function organized in connection with the first anniversary of the Batla House encounter. However, the Congress party has been avoided from the function by the organisers.

Leftist-secular-human rights organizations, the students and teachers of the Jamia as well as several minority organizations have pronounced the encounter as fake. The Jamia Teachers Solidarity Association has organized the programme considering the encounter as an example of state terrorism. This has reportedly prompted the organisers to keep the Congress party away from the programme.

Manisha Sethi, one of the organisers, is a human rights activist and has played an important role in bringing to light the Batla House encounter. She has reportedly said that they did not want the fake tears and sympathy of the Congress party which has become a part of the consensus politics indulging in illegal killings and minority hunt all over the country.

Mr Muneer will represent the Muslim League in the international convention titled ‘Government, democracy, terrorism’ to be held in the Jamia Millia on October 1. Subhashini Ali (CPI-M), Amarjeet Kaur (CPI), Kavitha Krishnan (CPI-ML), Javed Akhthar (Rashtriya Ulema Council), Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajvadi Party), Ali Anvar (Janatha Dal-U) and Jabir Hussain (RJD) who have taken an anti-Congress attitude in the Batla incident will take part in the convention. Mr Muneer and the various political leaders will attend the convention in the afternoon. Representatives of different human rights organisations will participate in the convention in the forenoon session.

The Congress party had failed miserably in the by-election held a few days ago in the Jamia Nagar constituency which includes the Batla House. The Congress lost its 15-year old seat to the RJD candidate who demanded judicial probe into the Batla House encounter.
