Guwahati: An employee of a private firm was shot at and robbed of nearly Rs.10 lakh, while a businessman was kidnapped and murdered in separate incidents in Assam’s main city of Guwahati Thursday, police said.
Four motorcycle-borne gunmen attacked an employee of a private firm in Guwahati’s Chatribari area Thursday afternoon and looted a bag containing Rs.9,90,000 in cash.
“The employee named Prassana Bora had just stepped out of his office on way to the bank to deposit the cash when two motorcycles screeched to a halt and one of them opened fire with a pistol from close range,” a police official said.
The bullet pierced through Bora’s abdomen.
“The gunmen then fled with one of them picking up the bag even as Bora was down with blood splattered all over the place,” the official said.
Bora was later shifted to a hospital with doctors carrying out an emergency surgery to remove the bullet from his abdomen.
In another incident, a businessman, Inderjit Singh, was kidnapped late Wednesday from the heart of the city and police recovered his mutilated body early Thursday from the city outskirts.
“We have decided to hand over the case for investigation to the CID as this is a sensational murder with the kidnappers chopping off the fingers of the captive before brutally killing him with sharp weapons,” Inspector General of Assam Police Pallab Bhattacharya said.
