Three states get funds for rural drinking water projects

New Delhi : The central government has released grants to three states – Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab – to ensure safe drinking water facilities in rural areas, an official statement said Friday.

“The ministry of rural development has released grants in aid worth Rs.400 million to Himachal Pradesh for execution and completion of rural water schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools,” the statement said.

“This is under the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission for the financial year 2009-10. To achieve drinking water security at village level, judicious use of rainwater, surface water and ground water is promoted,” it added.

The ministry has also released a grant of Rs.6,181.84 lakh to Uttarakhand for rural water schemes in its villages and schools.

For Punjab, the ministry has similarly released a grant aid of Rs.100 million for safe drinking water in rural areas.
