New Delhi : Describing it as a case of “stinking corruption”, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday charged Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor with abusing his authority to favour his friend Sunanda Pushkar and demanded his resignation as minister.
“The surrounding suspicious circumstances outline that he (Tharoor) abused his authority for undue enrichment for his friend (Pushkar),” BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
Prasad said this is a case of corruption – directly and under authority of a union minister.
“It is a blatant violation of law, it is a fraud on the company laws, it is a fraud on the rules, and the most important point that it is being done under the patronage of a union minister,” Prasad said.
“It is stinking corruption… It’s not only about 18 percent equity. The friend of the minister is a parking bay… a parking lot… he (Tharoor) is the beneficiary and that’s why in haste all these laws were violated and sweat (equity) was issued, and this was accepted by the minister in the Lok Sabha,” he added.
Reacting to news that Pushkar has given up her stake in the Kochi IPL franchise following the row, the BJP spokesperson said the stain of corruption is not washed by the return of money.
