New Delhi: Led by communist leader Brinda Karat, disabled people from across the country would march to Parliament House Tuesday, demanding a social security system and free healthcare in hospitals for them.
The march is being staged by the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled, an umbrella of various organisations working for the disabled from across the country. It would be led by Karat, an MP and politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
A delegation of leaders of the organisations will meet Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik. They have also sought an appointment with the prime minister.
Their demands include a comprehensive social security system for all people with disabilities and their families, free health care for all disabled in all hospitals, an amendment to the Right to Education Act to include disability, immediate identification of jobs for the disabled, concessions in local trains and setting up of a separate ministry for disability affairs.
