Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav Saturday called for a shutdown across Uttar Pradesh April 27 as part of a countrywide stir called by 13 opposition parties against rising prices.
“The call is part of a nationwide mission to put up a united front of 13 political parties that are seriously concerned about the rising prices,” he said at a press conference here.
Other than SP, the 13 include the four Left parties and Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. All of them would lead various forms of protests in their respective states of influence.
“Our sole objective is to highlight the government’s indifference to rising prices of all essential commodities, causing untold misery to the common people,” Mulayam Singh said.
While he charged the central government with being apathetic towards the needs of the poor, he accused the Mayawati government in the state of being neck-deep in corruption.
