Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Monday urged union Defence Minister A.K. Antony to clear the project for setting up a national defence university in the state.
According to a state government spokesperson here, Badal met Antony at his office in New Delhi Monday evening and sought his personal intervention on the issue.
“Badal has apprised the defence minister that the state government has already earmarked an area of nearly 230 acres at Sector 92 in Mohali for the construction of this proposed university,” the spokesperson said.
“Establishment of this university in Punjab would encourage a sense of military allurement among the youth. It would also fulfil the long pending demand of Punjab to have at least one premier defence institute in the state.”
Besides this, Badal has also asked Antony to set up an NCC naval unit at Bathinda town to attract students to join the NCC.
“Badal has also requested the minister to immediately clear the pending proposal of the state government relating to establishing a greenfield aerotropolis near Ludhiana city,” the spokesperson said.
