Mumbai: The Maharashtra government Monday announced a day’s state mourning Tuesday as a mark of respect to senior Congress leader and Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau, who died in New Delhi.
Rau will be accorded a state funeral Tuesday morning at her native village, Kolhapur-Rohini, in Wardha district of Vidarbha in eastern Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, other cabinet ministers, and senior officials will attend the funeral.
On account of the official mourning, the state government has cancelled all official functions, engagements and other programmes, an official announcement said here.
Rau was a six-time legislator and one-time parliamentarian from Maharashtra.
She also served as a cabinet minister with various chief ministers for over a decade and was the state Congress president for two separate terms.
