New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday reacted cautiously to reports that Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren had voted alongside the ruling United Progressive Alliance against cut motions against demands for grants of various ministries in the Lok Sabha .
“If it is true, we will take note of it,” a senior party leader said.
Soren, whose Jharkhand Mukti Morcha shares power with the BJP in Jharkhand, is yet to get elected to the state assembly. The norms provide that a minister has to get elected to the legislature within six months of his appointment.
Soren’s presence in the Lok Sabha Tuesday caused speculation about his future course of action.
Congress leaders also did not comment on reports that Soren had sided with them. “We will be in a position to confirm it tomorrow (Wednesday),” a union minister said.
The BJP along with Left and some other parties Tuesday moved cut motions in the Lok Sabha on the budget proposals of the government. However, the motions were defeated as the opposition parties were divided and the UPA government managed to muster the required numbers .
