Shimla : Himachal Pradesh has received 10 percent less monsoon rains so far this year, the met office said here Sunday.
“The overall monsoon was below average in most districts of the state. Till date the state saw 269.3 mm of rain against the normal average of 298.3 mm, which means the state got 10 percent deficit rainfall,” Meteorological Office Director Manmohan Singh told IANS.
“Only five districts – Kinnaur, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur – experienced more rain than normal. Seven districts saw inadequate rains,” he added.
According to Singh, since the southwestern monsoon is still active in the region, the rain inadequacy would be over by this month.
The monsoon reached the state July 5.
Himachal Pradesh’s agriculture and horticulture based economy is highly dependent on monsoon as more than 80 percent of the area is rain-fed.
