Kollam (Kerala): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nazir Maudany, who was Tuesday denied anticipatory bail by the Karnataka High Court in the 2008 Bangalore bomb blast case, said he was being “purposely trapped”.
Maudany was named as the 31st accused in the case and has been trying for anticipatory bail, first in a lower court in Bangalore, which was turned down last month, and then in the high court which too refused his plea Tuesday.
Addressing reporters at his residence here amidst a huge crowd of his supporters, Maudany said he was being purposely trapped.
“I had expected this verdict. This drama of arrest has been going on for long now and I make it very clear that I will readily get myself arrested before the Karnataka police when they come here. But what baffles me is the delay,” said Maudany.
Maudany and his wife Sufiya have been at the centre of speculation following the arrest of suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative T. Nazeer last year near the Meghalaya border. Nazeer is in custody of Bangalore police.
Nazeer is the first accused in the 2005 Kalamassery bus burning case, in which Sufiya is the 10th accused. She is currently on bail after her arrest last year.
The case against Maudany is that Nazeer had links with him and he knew that bombs would go off in Bangalore. However, Maudany has vehemently denied it.
“Now that the high court has rejected my bail, I will approach the Supreme Court,” added Maudany
Maudany was jailed after being linked to the 1998 serial bombings in Coimbatore but was acquitted in 2007.
“I fully believe in the Quran and a true Muslim does not engage in terror related activities and hence I will face what is in store for me,” said Maudany.
