New Delhi : A blueprint of the national mission for green India, which aims to increase forest cover across the country, will be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next week for his approval, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh Friday said.
He said the environment ministry, which held a series of consultations on the matter, is almost in the last stage of its finalisation.
The minister said the mission will not be successful if “we go on de-greening”.
“De-greening is not a sustainable growth. We should talk about ecological sustainability,” he said at a tiger symposium here.
The mission, which is one of the eight under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, aims at increasing green house gas removal by India’s forests to 6.35 percent of the country’s total emissions by 2020.
