Lucknow : A doctor committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, police said Friday.
Sanjay Kumar, a 40-year-old government doctor, was Thursday evening found hanging from the ceiling fan of his home in Kidwai Nagar area, some 80 km from Lucknow.
Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind incident but said marital discord could be a cause.
“Preliminary investigations reveal Sanjay Kumar was not on talking terms with his wife, who had left him a few weeks ago after having a fight over an issue,” police inspector Prabhu Singh told reporters in Kanpur.
“It could be possible that Sanjay Kumar took the extreme step because of depression,” he said.
Kumar was posted in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district and had not been attending his office for the last several days, police said.
“When the doctor did not open the door of his room after repeated knocks by his two children, they informed the neighbours, who approached us later. When we got the door opened, we found the doctor hanging inside the room,” said Singh.
