52 workers get Shram Awards

New Delhi : Fifty-two people employed in state-run and private sector units were Saturday announced as recipients of the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2008.

According to an official statement, the awards have been given to workers in recognition of their distinguished performances, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind.

The statement said that one nomination for the prestigious Shram Ratna Award, four nominations for the Shram Bhushan Award, 17 nominations for Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana and 30 nominations for Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards have been selected.

Though the total number of Shram Awards is 33, the number of people receiving the awards is 52, as some of the awards have been shared by workers or teams.

The winners include 35 workers from the public sector and 17 workers from the private sector.
