UAE rushes 100 tonnes of relief goods to Pakistan

By IANS/WAM,

Dubai : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has airdropped over 100 tonnes of relief materials in Pakistan’s flood-hit regions of Punjab and Sindh.

Aircraft from the Emirates made around nine trips a day to these two regions and troops supplied non-perishable packaged food products to the flood-hit people, an official of the UAE military relief force in Pakistan said in Islamabad Friday.

The UAE relief unit was among the first who responded to appeals from Pakistan, he said.

Meanwhile, Colonel Zahid Hussain, spokesperson of the Multan military base, said that Pakistani authorities have devised a three-tier plan to minimise the affects of the disaster.

The first phase was delivery of relief materials, the second phase included rescue and medical treatment, and the third would focus on reconstruction, he said.
