Kochi: Soofiya Maudany, wife of PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany, submitted a petition before the National Human Rights Commission seeking justice for her husband who is presently in jail for his alleged role in the 2008 Bengaluru blasts. The petition submitted before the chairman Js KG Balakrishnan reportedly asks the NHRC to interfere in the human rights violations meted out to Maudnay at the hands of the Karnataka government.
The petition was submitted directly to the chairman at the Ernakulam Guest House in the presence of the office-bearers of the Justice for Maudany Forum. It reportedly refutes the claim of the Karnataka police that Maudany was involved in illegal activities. Maudany who is the chairman of an authorized political party has no connection at all with the Bengaluru blasts, but is booked in the case by cooked up stories and wrong testimonies. After his arrest, the Karnataka Home Minister had accused him of involvement in the Bengaluru Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts also but the Police Commissioner refuted it. Even those involved in big crimes (and even foreigners including Pakistanis) are in the jail, but only Maudany is under 24 hour observation which deprives him of even sleep because of the presence of strong lights. The hard jail term is extremely dangerous for Maudany’s life, the petition said.
Maudany, who is suffering from several illnesses, is not being given proper treatment in the jail, said Justice for Maudany Forum chairman Dr Sebastian Paul who had visited Maudnay in jail. Maudany’s sons Omar Mukhtar and Salahudhin Ayyubi, JMF general convener H Shaheer Moulvi and convener Muhammed Rajeeb were also present in the team that met the NHRC chairman.
Abdunnasir Maudany, chairman of Kerala’s PDP, was arrested in August 2010 by Karnataka police from Kerala for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts. The Karnataka Home Minister later alleged that Maudany was involved in the Chinnaswamy Stadium blast also, but the Bengaluru Police Commissioner refuted it. Maudany was denied anticipatory bail earlier and after his arrest he was denied bail too. After his 10-day police custody he was remanded to judicial custody which is being renewed again and again. Maudany is presently in the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru. Maudany had earlier spent nearly 10 years in prison for his alleged involvement in the 1998 Coimbatore blasts and was acquitted and released in 2007 August.
Though the mainstream media painted Maudany as a terrorist, certain alternate media tried to bring out the loopholes in the police story. KK Shahina, the Kerala correspondent of ‘Tehelka’ magazine, booked by the Karnataka police for intimidation of the witnesses. She was also reportedly threatened by the police.
