Ranji Trophy: Bengal’s Shukla, Chakrabarty reprimanded

By IANS,

New Delhi : Bengal cricketers Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Dibyendu Chakrabarty were reprimanded by the match referee Gursharan Singh on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Railways here Friday.

Shukla and Chakrabarty were reprimanded for a Level One offence under International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct.

Shukla was held guilty of excessive celebration after he dismissed veteran left-arm pacer Murali Karthik, who was caught by Anustup Majumdar in the first innings. Chakrabarty earned the match referee’s wrath for showing displeasure after he was caught by Sanjay Bangar in the slips off Kartik’s bowling.

After the day’s play, the players were called by the match referee and were verbally reprimanded.

The Bengal team management, however, felt Chakrabarty was wrongly given out as the ball only hit his shoulder before it was taken by Bangar.

Bengal coach W. V. Raman said his team lost the initiative on the first day.

“They (Railways) went ahead and we had to take the back seat. Tomorrow we will give our best. It is a question of pride and we would do everything to make best use of the situation,” he said.
