New Delhi : Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday said he could neither confirm nor deny an Indian hand in the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes.
The home minister’s observation comes after Mumbai police investigators said an Indian named Syed Zakiuddin Ansari could have played a key role in the 26/11 attacks based on intelligence inputs and interrogation of arrested militants.
Chidambaram made this remark while presenting the monthly report card of his ministry.
Ansari, originally a resident of Maharashtra, has been on the run since 2005 and is believed to have links with the Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which organised the attacks against Mumbai.
One unidentified voice from the LeT’s control room that guided the ten terrorists during 26/11 spoke in Mumbai-inflected Hindi in contrast to the Punjabi used by the others, said investigators.
The minders used Voice-Over-Internet Protocol (VOIP) links to give orders to the assault team.
