After Bal Thackeray, son Uddhav attacks Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai : After Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, his son and party executive president Uddhav Thackeray Wednesday attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his utterances on Mumbai and said he must “Keep off Maharashtra”.

Addressing mediapersons, Uddhav Thackeray reiterated his party’s stance on the issue of ‘Mumbai for Marathis’ and said that Rahul Gandhi’s statements were prompted by the forthcoming assembly elections in Bihar.

“Nobody should think that the Sena is weak. Rahul Gandhi can keep away from Maharashtra,” Uddhav thundered.

In a personal attack on Rahul Gandhi for his comments on Mumbai, Bal Thackeray had earlier Wednesday said frustration sets in when a person doesn’t get married “despite advancing age” and the Congress MP was also “victim of this disease”.

Referrring to the party’s tirade against Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, Uddhav said that the agitation against the star was “spontaneous” by the party activists who did not wait for the orders of the party.

Since the past four days, posters and banners of Shah Rukh’s forthcoming movie “My Name Is Khan” have been torn or burnt in different parts of Maharashtra, including Nashik, Pune, Thane and in Mumbai Tuesday.

In some places, Sena agitators also burnt effigies of Shah Rukh.

Replying to a query on the Thackeray family inviting Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad to their home, Uddhav clarified that he had come with Dilip Vengsarkar to seek permission for the Pakistani team to play in Mumbai. “We did not give them clearance,” he said.
