New Delhi: Jet Airways flew 1.28 million passengers of the total 4.08 million carried by Indian carriers last month, registering a market share of 25.2 percent, according to a fresh data released Friday.
Airlines in India carried 4.48 million passengers during December 2009, the ministry of civil aviation said in a statement.
Another private carrier Kingfisher Airlines ranked second and carried 0.9 million passengers during January and attained a market share of 22.2 percent followed by national carrier Air India which flew 0.73 million passengers during the period with a market share of 18 percent.
Other low cost airlines like SpiceJet, Paramount, Go Air and IndiGo carried 0.5 million, 72,000, 0.22 million and 0.62 million, respectively. Their market share during January was 12.2, 1.8, 5.4 and 15.3 percent, respectively.
The aviation ministry also released the data for the on-time performance of the airlines during the month. Paramount led in punctuality with 87.3 percent of its flights operating on time.
This was followed by Kingfisher 82.5 percent, IndiGo 71.8, GoAir 71.5, Jet Airways 69.6, SpiceJet 65.7. Air India scored the worst with only 63.8 percent of its flight operating on time.
The overall on-time performance of scheduled domestic airlines for January was 71.3 percent, the ministry said.
