Islamabad : Two thirds of all Pakistanis believe Economic problems are their number one problems, specifically, inflation (43%) and unemployment (20%), according to a survey.
Terrorism or law and order issues have erupted as key issues as well: 32% for instance, mention law and order as the number one problem faced by Pakistan today, according to a recent Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan.
All other problems are mentioned by only 5% as the number one in the ladder.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were read of out a list of possible issues Pakistan is facing these days and were asked “In your opinion which ONE of the following problems is the number one issue of Pakistan in the current time?”
Forty three percent (43%) believe “Inflation” is the biggest problem of Pakistan, 32% think it is ‘Terrorism” which tops the list of possible problems, and 20% feel “Unemployment” is the biggest issue of today’s Pakistan. Four percent (4%) of the respondents cited “External threats” as the most crucial issue while the remaining 1% cited Kashmir or other problems.
The findings of the survey reveal no significant differences in opinion of people across various demographics except that a significantly higher percentage of ANP voters think of terrorism to be the most critical problem of Pakistan these days.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2805 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during January 2010. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
