Mercury rises in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla : The residents of Himachal Pradesh got a respite from cold conditions as the mercury rose across the state Sunday.

“Almost the entire hill state has been witnessing bright sunny days for the past one week resulting in rise in temperature,” Manmohan Singh, director of the Met office here, said.

He said the cold conditions even abated slightly in high-altitude hills.

Shimla recorded a maximum of 18.8 degrees Celsius against Saturday’s maximum of 18.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 9 degrees Celsius.

Likewise, Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a high of 11 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum was minus 2 degrees Celsius. The town Saturday recorded a maximum of 9.2 degrees Celsius.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded the day temperature at 27.4 degrees Celsius while it was 26.3 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar in Kullu district.

The Met Office has forecast rain and snow in higher reaches of the state Monday.
