New Delhi: A naked man who entered the high-security Delhi airport Friday night by scaling a 10-feet high boundary wall was drunk, police said Saturday, adding that a probe had been launched into the security breach.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security at airports across the country, has begun an inquiry into the incident.
“We are investigating the matter and appropriate action will be taken against the person responsible for it,” said CISF spokesperson Rohit Katiyar.
On Friday night, 8 p.m., a naked man was spotted near the runway at the Delhi airport.
According to sources, the man, identified as Arun Rai, jumped the periphery wall of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and started moving towards the taxiway near Runway 29. The Air Traffic Control had to abort the landing of a domestic flight coming from Hyderabad at the last moment after the intrusion was noticed.
Airport sources said the man entered the airport by scaling a 10-feet wall.
“The construction for a drain is going on along the Runway 29. The height of a periphery wall at that point has reduced, thus it is easy to scale the wall from there,” the source said.
Rai was handed over to Delhi Police Friday night. “A case under section 447 (criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and he has been arrested,” said a senior Delhi Police official.
Rai, 29, a native of Bihar was living in Gurgaon with his family. His medical examination has revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol.
