Patna : Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan Friday demanded an impartial probe into an alleged case of scam in purchase of medicines for jails in the state, filed against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and 26 other people.
“Only an impartial probe could expose the reality into the case against Nitish Kumar,” Paswan said.
A complaint against Nitish Kumar was filed by lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha Thursday in the court of Special Vigilance Judge Bipin Bihari Pandey in Muzaffarpur under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In his complaint, Ojha alleged that prison department officials had purchased medicines for prisoners lodged in jails of north Bihar at rates much higher than the market price.
“The medicines were bought from a pharmaceutical company which had ceased its production during the period when the purchases were allegedly made,” he said.
Nitish Kumar was named in the complaint case as he is also holding the charge of home department.
The court has fixed Jan 21 as the next date of hearing of the case.
