New Delhi: Delhiites woke up to a cold but relatively clear morning Sunday as flights took off as scheduled. However, rail services continued to be hit with as many as 41 trains delayed due to heavy backlog, an official said.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature was 8 degrees Celsius, one degrees above normal for this time of year.
The met office has some good news – it has predicted that the daytime temperature Sunday would hover around 19 degrees Celsius.
“Though fog is reported in some areas but it should be a clear sky during the day,” an IMD official said.
An airport official said: “Unlike the previous day when fog made flight schedules go haywire, Sunday was much better with no delay in flights.”
“The runway visual range (RVR) this (Sunday) morning was 2,000 metres so all fights were on schedule.”
Rail services were still facing delays Sunday due to fog from previous days.
“There was hardly any fog in Delhi, but the condition in other places may not be as good. In addition there is a heavy backlog. Therefore, there were as many as 41 trains that are delayed and seven trains were re-scheduled,” a Northern Railway spokesperson told IANS.
The capital recorded the lowest day temperature in five years Friday at 12.1 degrees Celsius. The same day, dense fog wreaked havoc with the rail and flight schedules.
