The seven people, comprising six friends and the driver, were killed early Tuesday when their Scorpio skidded into a gorge at Dadhol village near Ghumarwin in Bilaspur, about 110 km from state capital Shimla.

Two other friends were critically injured in the accident.

“We handed over the bodies of all the seven road accident victims to their families late last (Tuesday) night,” Superintendent of Police (Bilaspur) Kuldeep Sharma told IANS.

“The two critically injured – Ganesh and Pravesh – have been referred to the Chandigarh’s PGI,” he said.

Those who were killed were identified as Gajender Rastogi, 26, Deepak Garg, 28, Sonu, 20, Nitin, 29, Johnny, 21, Shailesh, 24 and the driver Sushil Garg, 33.

According to police, five of the eight friends were from the same neighbourhood in C-Block of Brahmpuri in east Delhi. They had hired the Scorpio Sunday and reached Shimla Monday.

They were on their way to the Hindu shrine of Jwalamukhi in Kangra district when the accident occurred.

“Prima facie, it seems to be a case of rash and negligent driving,” a police officer said.
