Sunny day brings relief to Shimla

By IANS,

Shimla : Residents of Shimla woke up to a bright sunny day Thursday, a day after the season’s first snowfall. However, the higher reaches of the state continued to reel under sub-zero temperatures.

“Shimla and its nearby areas witnessed a bright sunny day this (Thursday) morning after snow and rain yesterday (Wednesday),” Manmohan Singh, director of the Meteorological Office, told IANS.

He said the night temperature here increased early Thursday morning due to cloudy conditions.

“The minimum temperature in Shimla was 1.1 degrees Celsius, a rise from Wednesday’s minus 0.5 degrees Celsius,” he said.

However, the minimum temperature in other areas plummeted sharply due to the snow and rain.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district and Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded minimum temperatures of minus 11.3 degrees Celsius and minus 7.6 degrees Celsius respectively, as against lows of minus 9.2 degrees Celsius and minus 3 degrees Celsius Wednesday.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a minimum of 0.6 degrees Celsius, while it was 2.1 degrees in Dharamsala and 1.2 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar in Kullu district, he said.
