Congress’ Bihar list did not mention castes: Tytler

By IANS,

New Delhi/Patna: Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler has rejected allegations that the official list of Bihar Congress office-bearers released in Patna on Jan 5 also mentioned castes of the party leaders.

“The official list did not mention the castes,” Tytler, who is in charge of the Congress affairs in Bihar, told IANS here.

Tytler said there was no complaint for three days after the official list was released.

He said the documents were prepared mentioning castes during the exercise of making appointments, but these were only for internal use.

Tytler said he had apprised party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi about the sequence of events. He said the name of the Lok Sabha Speaker was included in the list of permanent invitees by mistake and it was removed as soon as the error was pointed out.

He also questioned the locus standi of the person who Thursday lodged a police complaint against him and state Congress chief Anil sharma in Patna for allegedly violating the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes Atrocity Prevention Act. Tytler said only those named by caste could make a complaint.

A First Information Report was filed in Patna against Tytler and Sharma by a leader of Dalit Kranti Morcha, who alleged that they had “released” a list with the caste description of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and the state Congress office-bearers.
