Berlin : A prominent Palestinian civic leader in Germany lashed out at Berlin’s role in helping Egypt to build a steel wall along its border with the Gaza Strip.
Talking to IRNA in Berlin on Thursday, the head of the Society for Humanitarian Support of Palestinians (GHUP), Izzeddin Musa slammed the construction of the Gaza wall for “violating international law.”
He stressed Egypt’s latest controversial move, coming in the wake of intense US and Zionist pressure, was geared at “starving out Palestinians in Gaza.”
Once completed, the steel barrier would cut off blockaded Gaza’s last lifeline by slicing through hundreds of smuggling tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border.
Musa labeled Egyprian President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as “the biggest disgrace of all times” for succumbing to massive US and Israeli pressure.
He lambasted also Chancellor Angela Merkel for her ongoing blind support of the Zionist regime, branding it “unbearable.”
The veteran Palestinian activist said it was “unacceptable” for Merkel to host next week’s joint German-Israeli government consultations in Berlin amid the continuing siege of Gaza.
Musa strongly criticized German arms sales to Israel, saying it violated the German constitution which bars the delivery of weapons to crisis regions like the Middle East.
He pointed to the fact that more than 60 percent of Germans view Israel as the greatest danger to global peace.
Musa emphasized that Israel was “not really interested in peace,” but was actually trying to create facts on the ground in occupied West Bank by building even more new settlements.
