Fire renders 50 families homeless in Orissa

Bhubaneswar: One person sustained burns and at least 50 families were rendered homeless after a fire ravaged their village huts Orissa’s Dhenkanal district, police said Saturday.

The fire broke out at Basoi village, some 165 km from here, late Friday night, a police officer told IANS. “At least 50 families were rendered homeless. One person has sustained burn injuries,” he said.

Fire-fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control early Saturday.

The person who sustained burn injuries is in hospital but is out of danger, the official said.

Steps are being taken to provide relief to the affected villagers. The cause of the fire is also being investigated, he added.
