Jewish newspaper website hacked in UK by Palestinian supporters

By IRNA,

London : Police were reported Tuesday to be investigating the posting of pro-Palestinian messages on the website of Britain’s leading Jewish newspaper after it was hacked on Sunday evening.

According to the Jewish Chronicle, its site was suspended for 18 hours after a Palestinian flag was posted on its homepage with a message supporting “Palestinian Mujaheeds.”

“The perpetrator was believed to have been operating from a computer in Turkey, a country which was involved in a diplomatic row with Israel,” the paper said.

It said the message was in poor English and repeated in Turkish, with the heading that it was “Hacked by Palestinian Mujaheeds” and also complained of Palestinian human rights breaches.

Part of it was quoted reading: “Aren’t you ashamed of showing respect to Jewish who makes revenge, hatred and rivality feelings between the people?”

The Jewish Chronicle editor, Stephen Pollard, said the attack had come from a Turkish IP address and that technicians were working to learn more about its precise origins.

He said that London’s Metropolitan police had been informed about the incident, the first of its kind to affect the weekly newspaper’s site.

“Only those without the confidence to win an argument resort to such tactics. And it was a pretty self-defeating attempt to silence us. Our site was down for a few hours, but as a result we will get more readers than ever before,” he said.
