Islamabad : Pakistani senators have strongly criticized U.S airports screening as violation of human rights and termed them as against the Charter of United Nations, infringement on right of privacy and act of selective discrimination and profiling.
The senators were speaking on the Adjournment Motion in the Senate on U.S position on pat down, strip search imposed on 14 countries including Pakistan and other Muslim countries.
Taking part in debate Prof. Khurshid Ahmad, of Jamaat-e-Islami demanded that Pakistan and the Governments of the other Muslim countries must impose reciprocal restrictions at American visitors whatever official or non official position they have.
He said the step by the US administration has increased anti-American feelings in Pakistan and all over the Muslim world.
While condemning the action Prof. Khurshid informed that he has refused time and again to visit United States of America despite repeated invitations from top universities and think tanks only because of this humiliating treatment meted out to Pakistan. He said his last visit was on April 2004 after which he did not visit the U.S.
He also did not join Mr. Holbrooke and US Ambassador’s breakfast on principled objectives. He demanded that US must review this policy and Pakistan must not only condemn it but also mobilize diplomatic support from different quarters including United Nations to pressure USA to change this discriminatory, inhuman like and humiliating treatment against Pakistan and the Muslims.
Several other senators also criticized the U.S screening and said that only Muslim countries have been subjected to the discriminatory laws.
