Coal ministry plans to allocate blocks through states

By IANS,

Kolkata: Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal Friday indicated that his ministry will make provisions for state governments to allocate coal mines to user industries in the proposed amendments in the Mines Act.

At the same time, the auction route for allotment of coal blocks, as planned under the amendment, will also be in place.

“If coal blocks are available with us, we will surely give it to the states. It can be separately allocated by the government route,” Jaiswal said here on the sidelines of the 3rd Asian Mining Congress.

He, however, did not divulge the details of the mechanism that will be used for the implementation of this scheme.

Jaiswal said the amendment bill will be tabled in the budget session of parliament.
