New Delhi: Demanding that the central government clear the air over Telangana, Congress MPs from the region say that the “suspense” over its statehood has led to “suspicion” in the minds of the people.
“The suspense over creation of Telangana has led to suspicion in the minds of the people. People have even committed suicide,” Congress MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi told IANS Saturday.
Yaskhi, along with nine other Congress MPs from the Telangana region, is camping in the national capital. They met Defence Minister A.K. Antony Friday, demanding that the government end the “suspense” over creating a separate state of Telangana. They have also sought an appointment with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
“The agitation (for creating a Telangana state) is no longer restricted to employees or a section of the people but is being carried out in villages. It has become a revolution,” Yaskhi maintained.
The MP said the government had indicated after the Jan 6 eight-party meeting in the capital that a mechanism would be found to carry forward the consultation process but no announcement has been made so far.
He said that the resignation of party MPs from Telangana was with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and they would press for its acceptance if the government did not make an announcement soon.
Andhra Pradesh Congress president D. Srinivas met Antony Saturday to discuss the issue.
