Islamabad: The toll in Friday’s suicide attack in northwest Pakistan’s Mohmand tribal region has risen to over 100 with more bodies recovered from the debris, a media report said Saturday.

The condition of more than 100 people injured in the blast is critical, Geo News reported.

More bodies were recovered from the debris Saturday, according to an official Meraj Khan.

A suicide bomber riding a motorbike blew himself up Friday as hundreds of people were gathered around the office of a senior government official in Mohmand region, where security forces have stepped up attacks on Taliban militants in recent weeks.

The powerful blast pulled down at least 30 shops including two hotels in Yakkaghand. The explosion also caused the Yakkaghand jail to collapse, allowing 35 prisoners to escape.

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has accepted responsibility for the blast.

The blast targeted the members of Ambar Peace Committee present at the government office, TTP spokesman Ikramullah Mohmand told Geo News from an unknown destination.
