Gandhinagar: Bhikhubhai Jethwa, father of right to information (RTI) activist Amit Jethwa who was shot dead outside the Gujarat High Court, Wednesday blamed Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) MP Dinu Solanki for the murder.
Amit Jethwa was shot dead Tuesday night.
In a statement to police which was released to media, Jethwa, who is a journalist with Gujarati daily Phulchhab, alleged that he and his son had been regularly receiving threats from the MP, who represents Junagadh constituency, and his nephew.
“Only yesterday my son had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat High Court against the illegal limestone mining going on unhindered within and around the lion sanctuary at Sasan Gir,” he said.
Jethwa said that his son had been spearheading a campaign against the illegal activities of Solanki.
He had also sought information under the RTI from the Junagadh district police about 30 to 35 murders that had taken place in the area in the last seven years.
“In January 2009, Solanki had personally come to the office of Amit in Khambha village and threatened him,” he added.
Jethwa demanded a criminal investigation department (CID) probe into the murder of his son.
“If I am not satisfied with the investigations, I will seek the intervention of the high court for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) investigation into the murder,” he added.
