Patna : Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has alleged that Governor Devanand Konwar was working like a “worker of the opposition” over demands for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation for his alleged involvement in a Rs.11,412 crore scam.
Angry over the opposition demanding the resignation of Nitish Kumar, JD-U state president Vijay Kumar Choudhary said in a statement that the governor was working as a worker of the opposition.
He accused him of entertaining the opposition delegation and media at the governor’s house when legislators submitted a memorandum to demand the dismissal of the Nitish Kumar government Thursday.
“It was against the established norms and lowers the dignity of the governor’s house,” Choudhary said.
He said it meant that the governor was welcoming the move.
The entire opposition, barring the Congress, Thursday submitted a memorandum to Konwar and demanded the dismissal of the Nitish Kumar government. A Congress delegation Friday met him and demanded the dismissal of the government.
Sixty-seven opposition legislators were suspended for unruly behaviour in the assembly, which witnessed violent clashes between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition members Tuesday and Wednesday.
Unruly scenes were witnessed in the assembly Wednesday as a slipper was flung at the speaker in the house and flower pots were broken in the premises by opposition legislators.
Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi are among the 47 people named in the court complaint alleging irregularities of Rs.11,412 crore during 2002-08 in Bihar.
Petitioner Arvind Kumar pointed at financial irregularities in the use of development funds.
The Patna High Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the complaint, a move the government has appealed against.
