New Delhi : The Congress Monday took a dig at the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for terming former Speaker Somnath Chaterjee as a person who defected to the ruling establishment, saying that the Left wants to live in a mind-control world.
“The Left wants to live in a mind-control world where anyone who disagrees with anything which they say is deemed to be a defector,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in response to questions.
The CPI-M Monday said Chatterjee’s allegation that “disastrous” policies and “misguided” actions of the current CPI-M leadership led to poll debacles was a view expressed by “a person who defected to the ruling establishment”.
The CPI-M said Chatterjee has made “a number of false assertions” in his forthcoming book (“Keeping the Faith: Memoirs of a Parliamentarian”).
Chaterjee was expelled by the party in July 2008 for going against the CPI-M diktat of not stepping down as speaker ahead of the trust vote.
