The language of violence

By Zohra Javed for TwoCircles.net,

Violence is shockingly becoming the language of all and sundry. One only has to look around to see how violence is becoming a part of life in a world filled with lofty ambitions and selfish desires. Apart from ambition and selfishness I think there are other reasons also for violence finding so much universal acceptance. Among them is the lack of patience among people, the glorification of violence and its association with patriotism and valour.

It is now taken for granted that violence is the only way to make yourself heard. It is the only way to attract people’s attention to your grievance or show your strength and power. Not so surprisingly therefore no election in a democracy is now free from violent incidents. No religious sect can claim to be completely non-violent.

Every political party and every religious faction worth any mention at all, has its terror outfit in place, hale and hearty and fighting fit. These outfits preaching and actively practicing violence are of course generally and legally supposed to be unlawful, but nothing they do is exemplarily punished by law.

The government has its police, para-military and Military forces, which of course are sanctimonious and supposed to be responsible for protecting the weak and the poor the most, and also ensuring a smooth running of the law and order and administration of the country.

But then there has to be some loophole or some deficiency in the system, if with so much forces and absolute power at its command, the State cannot address the grievances of its citizens at the most basic levels and allows them to simmer or blow up into uncontrollable law and order conditions. This allows for vested interests to jump in and take undue advantage of the situation at the expense of tax payers money, which is either appropriated by such middlemen or goes down the drain in keeping up extra security measures in cases of situations like terror attacks and their aftermath or violent situations created by small regional outfits in the name of community pride and such other frivolous pretexts.

It is astounding to see the omnipresence of violence and its justification at each and every step by its perpetrators that seem to satisfy a lot many people from the masses, who actually start believing in the potency of violence as a means to bringing about peace.

No one dares to talk of how miserably counterproductive violence has always been, and sadly it is very easy to provoke a completely demoralised lot into taking up violence…

I think it is time that for every issue where the root cause is injustice and human tragedy, the common man must see through the divisive plans of the vested interests and work on solutions in the interest of humanity as a whole. At present the scene is that we get busy trying to fix the blame, not realising that there are far too many up there to be blamed…

Hence no wonder that instead of even thinking about solutions we keep discussing the same things over and over till the repetition becomes monotonous and meaningless, and solutions, although within reach are never found.

Suits all those who are gaining from this chaos and human tragedy.
